The Syrian state television warned in a statement on Christmas Eve Swedish extremists who traveled to Syria to fight the rebels in the war, reports TV4 News.

"Mercenaries" is said in the weft, which aired in the channel's English-language news program, get to meet a "fate darker than the night" and "be crushed in Syria precious earth."

The statement is seen as a response to a video posted on Youtube in november of "Swedish Mujahideen in Syria," where Swedish Muslims, in Swedish, was invited to participate in the fight against the Syrian regime.

Security Police would not comment on whether it can be seriously behind the threats.

- But we have since the summer have seen an increased number of reported cases of people who have traveled to Syria and an increased interest among violent Islamists to go there to join various armed groups. And we are concerned that the number of passengers may increase in the future, says Sara Kvarnstrom at SAPO's press service.
