The world of DDOS on MMORPG – The queue

Tag: cybercrime, ddos, Denial, gaming, paper, queue, scenario, security, Service, warcraft, World

The cybercrime world is evolving and new targets are being targeted. The game industry is a industry that will hit the 70 billion dollar by 2015. The gaming industry already is a target for cybercrime activities. But as we have seen lately the use of DDOS attacks has increased.

The scenario I want to describe is in my view a serious scenario because it can affect the whole gaming industry and the people that play games online.

The scenario

I get hold on a network with enough power to constantly login at the games login page. We know that this is possible because there are enough auto login bots for games on the internet. This network will be used to log in at the several servers and build up a queue exceeding the servers’ capabilities.

That would result in angry players that can’t access their game and the game provider will have a hard time to filter the fake logins.

For example take the MMORPG Silkroad Online or think of World of Warcraft. This game is overwhelmed by bots and gold farmers. That is the online cybercrime in MMORPG.

I would love to know what you think about this scenario and maybe add up information and/or correct me by providing the correct information (if I forgot something to think about).
