A hacker with the nickname Neo is causing red faces among politicians and officials in Latvia. The hacker published leaked data about high public sector salaries. Latvia has been hit hard by the financial crisis, about 23% of the living people is unemployed.
Senior government officials are reportedly earning 2.000 lats, while the average is 440 lats. Top officials of several banks earn salaries from about 6.000 to 23.000 lats. But by the end of 2009 the salaries dropped to between 4.000 and 7.000 lats.
The hacker wrote on his blog "Rise up and take the power back, it's time that the fat cats had a heart attack, you know that their time is coming to an end".
Most people in Latvia call Neo the virtual Robin Hood.
